Maldives Holidays 2026: Your Complete Guide to Paradise

Back to blog

The Maldives. Just the name conjures images of turquoise lagoons, white sand, and overwater villas stretching into the Indian Ocean. And yes, it really is as beautiful as the photos suggest.

Is the Maldives Affordable?

Here's what might surprise you — the Maldives doesn't have to break the bank. While there are resorts charging £1,000+ per night, you can find excellent all-inclusive packages from £1,899 per person for 7 nights including flights from London.

The key is booking through a travel agent (hello, TravelPal!) who can access deals and packages that aren't available on resort websites.

All-Inclusive vs Half Board

In the Maldives, all-inclusive is strongly recommended. Unlike most destinations, you can't simply walk to a local restaurant — you're on a private island. Without all-inclusive, expect to pay resort prices for everything (think £15 for a beer).

Getting There

Direct flights aren't available from the UK, but one-stop options via Dubai, Doha, or Istanbul are comfortable and affordable. Total travel time is around 12-14 hours door-to-door.

From Malé airport, your resort transfer will be by speedboat (30-90 minutes) or seaplane (20-45 minutes) depending on location.

When to Visit

The dry season (December-April) offers the best weather with minimal rainfall and excellent visibility for diving. The wet season (May-November) is cheaper and still enjoyable — rain typically comes in short bursts.

Top Tips

  1. Book early — the best resorts sell out months in advance
  2. Pack reef-safe sunscreen — the coral reefs are the Maldives' greatest asset
  3. Bring snorkelling gear — house reefs are incredible and you'll use them daily
  4. Don't skip the seaplane — the aerial views of the atolls are breathtaking
  5. Budget for excursions — dolphin cruises, diving trips, and spa treatments add up
