Santorini Travel Guide 2026: The Complete UK Holiday Guide

Back to blog

Few places on Earth look as stunning in person as they do in photos. Santorini is one of them. This volcanic Greek island has become the ultimate bucket-list destination, and a trip here is more affordable than you might think.

Why Santorini?

Santorini offers a unique combination of dramatic natural beauty, rich history, world-class food, and that unmistakable Greek island atmosphere. Whether you're planning a honeymoon, anniversary trip, or simply want to tick off a dream destination, Santorini delivers.

Where to Stay

Oia is the most famous village — whitewashed buildings, blue domes, and the sunset everyone photographs. Hotels here are premium priced.

Fira (the capital) offers the best nightlife, shopping, and a wider range of accommodation. Great caldera views at lower prices.

Perissa/Kamari are the beach areas — budget-friendly, relaxed, and perfect if you want sand and sea rather than clifftop views.

Getting There

Direct flights from the UK to Santorini (JTR) operate from May to October. Flight time is about 3.5 hours. Alternatively, fly to Athens and take a short domestic flight or overnight ferry.

Budget Tips

  1. Visit in shoulder season — May/June or September/October for lower prices and fewer crowds
  2. Stay in Perissa or Kamari — half the price of caldera-view hotels
  3. Eat at village tavernas — incredible food at a third of the price of tourist-facing restaurants
  4. Take local buses — KTEL buses connect all major villages for €2-3
  5. Book the sunset catamaran early — it sells out weeks in advance
