Tenerife Holiday Guide 2026: Everything You Need to Know

Back to blog

Tenerife remains the undisputed king of Canary Island holidays, and for good reason. Where else can you sunbathe on a beach in the morning, hike a volcano in the afternoon, and enjoy world-class dining in the evening — all in temperatures that rarely dip below 20°C?

Why Tenerife?

Unlike most European beach destinations, Tenerife delivers genuine year-round warmth. Even in January, you can expect 20-22°C and sunshine. This makes it the perfect winter sun escape for UK travellers tired of the cold and dark.

South vs North

Tenerife essentially offers two holidays in one:

The South (Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje) is where most tourists head. It's sunnier, drier, and packed with resorts, restaurants, and nightlife. Perfect for families and those who want a classic beach holiday.

The North (Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Anaga) is greener, quieter, and more authentically Canarian. You'll find black-sand beaches, banana plantations, and charming towns that tourism hasn't quite reached yet.

Getting There

Tenerife South Airport (TFS) handles most UK flights, with services from Jet2, TUI, Ryanair, and easyJet. Flight time is around 4.5 hours. Tenerife North (TFN) serves mostly inter-island and mainland Spain routes.

Money-Saving Tips

  1. Eat where locals eat — venture away from the tourist strip for meals at half the price
  2. Get a TITSA bus pass — public transport is cheap and reliable across the island
  3. Book excursions online — skip the hotel tour desk markup
  4. Visit in shoulder season (April-May, October-November) for the best prices
  5. Self-catering apartments can save families hundreds compared to hotels
